9 tips you should know before your first Bridal Appointment

Shopping for your wedding dress is something you’ll NEVER forget—there's something special about seeing yourself in a wedding dress for the first time, no matter if it's the dress you pick or not! Let's make sure you're prepared and confident for your first bridal appointment with our top tips, as well as everything you need to know about timelines between ordering your dress and having it ready for your wedding day.

Do your research!

It’s super helpful to research bridal gowns beforehand to find styles you love! You can do this by browsing bridal magazines, wedding websites, and social media platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram. Look for styles, fabrics, and details that you’re drawn to and start creating a vision board or folder to keep track of your fave designs. This will definitely come in handy at your actual appointment, too. But ultimately, the point here is to have an idea of what dresses you like so that your bridal stylist can know exactly what your vibe is.

Know your budget!

Wedding dresses can range in price from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars. Have a budget in mind before your appointment so you can focus on dresses within your price range. You don't want to fall in love with a dress that is out of your budget! Just for reference, our gowns range between $1,500 and $10,000. We have something for almost every budget here, so let us know what your budget is and we’ll do everything we can do to help you find “the one” at the best price.

Dress for success!

Since you'll have someone help you try on dresses, you're going to want to wear underwear that you don't mind being seen in. Make sure the underwear matches your skin tone and doesn't have seams so you can't see anything when you try it on. Also, we encourage you to keep makeup and fake tan to a minimum. You'll find it hard to get the dresses on and off, and they'll probably go over your head, so you don’t want to get product all over the gowns!

It’s also helpful to bring in a pair of shoes that are the same heel height as what you plan on wearing for the wedding day. Bonus points if they’re the actual wedding day heels!

Bring your inspo!

Remember that inspiration we talked about earlier? This is where it comes in handy! Not only will you have an image in your head of what you like, but you’ll be able to share that with your bridal consultant so they can find the perfect dresses for you to try.

Be open minded!

Even if you have a specific style in mind, be open to trying on different styles! Your consultant may suggest a dress that you never would have considered, but it may end up being the perfect dress for you. You never know what you might fall head over heels for!

Keep it exclusive

While it's tempting to bring your entire bridal party to your appointment, it's best to keep the group small. Too many opinions can be overwhelming and make it harder for you to make a decision. Stick to bringing only your closest family and friends.

Trust the experts

Your bridal consultant is there to help you find the perfect dress! Trust their expertise and let them guide you through the appointment. They have seen hundreds of brides and can offer valuable advice and suggestions.

Know the timing

An average wedding dress takes six to eight months to order, depending on the designer and the manufacturer. This is why it’s ideal to start shopping at least a year in advance to make sure you get your gown on time! Alterations can also take several weeks depending on what amount of customizations you need, so there needs to be time allotted for that as well.

Plan your day accordingly!
